ACM is pleased to invite contributions for our first annual symposium – Creative Industries Futures – on the 20/07/2023 at The Royal Society of Arts.

Symposium Theme: Creative Industries Futures

In recent years, organisations in the creative industries have had to evolve and innovate to ensure continued success in today’s socio-economic climate. Consequently, creative practitioners and educators must respond, adapting to an industry that increasingly requires a multi-skilled and agile workforce. At ACM we have recently launched our new undergraduate programme ‘Creative Industries Futures’. The programme draws on current changes to industry, professions, and landscapes of the creative industries to inform the professionals of tomorrow.

ACM is delighted to now bring together a symposium event to discuss central themes integral to our work as academics, educators and practitioners traversing the new creative industry landscape.

This symposium will explore the future(s) of the creative industries from a range of perspectives: What is the future of an industry which thrives on collaboration but must fit with evolving ways of working? What technological developments are shaping the future of these industries? How do we prepare the next generation for work in these industries, which increasingly require multi-skilled individuals?

We invite proposals for papers, performance presentations, panels, posters and provocations. We encourage proposals to explore a range of developments, practices and ways of working across the creative industries with a forward thinking focus.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Innovation in the creative industries
  • The evolving nature of work in the creative industries (particularly in relation to music)
  • Preparing the next generation for work in the creative industries
  • Changing definitions of roles, products, spaces, and community in the creative industries
